How to Make a Shaker

imgres-1Want to make music at home?  Here’s an easy instrument that you can make with what you already have in your house.

You know all of those leftover eggs from Easter Egg hunting?  Fill them and shake them!  What’s fun for your little ones is seeing how different shakers sound depending on what’s inside.  The different sounds will encourage them to listen more intently.  Here are some ideas to make many different sounding shakers.

Try these fillings:
Cheerios, beans, rice, popcorn, sand, granola, coins, beads
gravel of various sizes, macaroni and whatever else you can think of!
For the really little babies, be sure to seal the eggs using tape or glue.  You could also intend on them opening and eating what’s inside by storing their snacks in the eggs.

It’s also a fun activity for older babies and toddlers to help fill the eggs.  This interactive activity can keep them busy and bring much joy to both of you. imgres

Don’t have eggs?  Use small water bottles, or other storage containers.  They can color them or leave them clear and they can see what’s inside.
If you make some, bring them to our next Family Music Time on Tuesday, April 16 at 10:30am.  We’ll be having a Fiesta!  Click here to make a reservation.
